Origins of Foods & Ingredients
A discovery session tracing how the foods on your plate travelled the world to reach Tunisia β from ancient trade routes to your kitchen table.
Book This Workshop βEvery Ingredient Has a Story
The tomato in your salad came from the Americas. The pepper in your harissa arrived through the same trade routes. The orange on your breakfast table traces back to China. Even couscous β Tunisia's most iconic dish β carries centuries of migration and exchange in every grain.
This workshop is an invitation to look at what you eat differently. Through hands-on exploration, tastings, and storytelling, we trace the remarkable journeys that brought the world's ingredients to the Tunisian table β and why that history still shapes how we grow, cook, and eat today.
Ingredients We Will Explore
Each session focuses on a curated selection of ingredients grown right here on the farm, traced back to their roots.
Tomato β From the Andes
Brought to Europe by Spanish conquistadors in the 16th century, it took over a century for the tomato to be trusted as food rather than feared as poison.
Chili β From Mesoamerica
Chilies reached North Africa through Portuguese and Ottoman trade, and within a generation became inseparable from Tunisian identity.
Olive β Born in the Mediterranean
One of the oldest cultivated plants on earth, the olive tree has shaped Tunisian landscape, economy, and cuisine for over 5,000 years.
Wheat & Couscous β North African Heritage
The ancient grain that became the foundation of Berber, Arab, and Andalusian cooking β and one of humanity's great culinary inventions.
Stories & Timelines
Each ingredient gets its origin story β told through maps, historical anecdotes, and the farm's own experience growing it.
Farm Walk
See these ingredients growing in the ground, hear how we tend them, and understand what the plant looks like before it reaches the kitchen.
Guided Tasting
Taste each ingredient raw, processed, and cooked β and sense how differently the same thing can express itself.
Take-Home Booklet
A beautifully illustrated mini-guide to the origins of 20 common ingredients, to keep exploring at home.
Suitable for All Ages
This workshop is one of our most accessible β no cooking or physical work involved, just curiosity. It is perfect for families, school groups, and adults who love food but have never thought about where it actually comes from.
Sessions last 2 hours and include a tasting of the featured ingredients. Groups of up to 20 are welcome. It pairs well with a Farm Brunch or Lunch afterwards β many guests book both on the same day.
