Animals as Partners, Not Products
At El Berima, animals are not a side attraction β they are full members of the farm community. Each animal plays a specific role in the farm's ecosystem: goats enrich the soil, chickens control insects and produce eggs, bees pollinate the gardens and give us honey.
We raise our animals with patience and respect. They are well-fed, free to roam, and cared for daily. Visitors often comment on how calm and approachable our animals are β that is not an accident. Animals that are raised with gentleness become gentle themselves.

Our Animals
Each animal at El Berima has a name, a personality, and a purpose.
The Goats
Our herd of local Tunisian goats is the most social group on the farm. They are curious, affectionate, and always the first to greet visitors at the gate. The goats provide us with fresh milk used in our artisan cheeses, and their grazing helps keep the land in balance.
The Chickens
Free-range and spirited, our chickens roam the farm from sunrise to sunset. They scratch the soil, eat insects, and produce the golden-yolked eggs that end up in our shakshuka and weekend omelettes. Our rooster takes his role very seriously.
The Donkeys
Our bees are perhaps the most important animals on the farm β pollinating the garden, the orchard, and the wildflowers that grow along the hedgerows. In return, they give us pure raw honey harvested twice a year. They are managed by our experienced beekeeper without chemicals.
The Rabbits
Our rabbits live in a spacious enclosure near the kitchen garden. They are a favorite with younger visitors β patient, soft, and endlessly curious. The children's animal care workshop often centers around the rabbit hutch.
The Ducks
Our small duck family lives near the farm's water source. They are excellent pest controllers β eating slugs and insects that damage the vegetable beds β and their gentle waddling through the garden is one of El Berima's quiet daily joys.
The Sheep
Our sheep graze the outer fields, keeping the grass managed naturally. Wool from our flock is cleaned and used in traditional weaving, a craft we sometimes offer as a seasonal workshop.
Children & the Farm
There is something irreplaceable about a child's first time holding a baby chick, or watching a goat eat from their palm, or collecting a still-warm egg from the henhouse. These moments create memories that outlast any screen.
El Berima is designed to be safe and welcoming for young visitors. All our animals are accustomed to being handled gently, and our farmers guide children through each interaction with patience and care.
Our Animal Care workshop is the most requested activity for school groups and family visits. A full morning of feeding, observing, and learning β with mint tea and fresh bread at the end.
How Our Animals Help the Farm
Soil Enrichment
Goat and sheep manure is composted and returned to the kitchen garden as the richest natural fertilizer we have.
Natural Pest Control
Chickens and ducks patrol the vegetable beds, eating the insects and larvae that would otherwise damage crops.
Pollination
Our bees pollinate the gardens and orchard, dramatically increasing yields of fruit, vegetables, and wildflowers.
Fresh Dairy
Goat milk from our herd is used in our farm cheese, served at brunch and in the coffee bar.
