Everything on this farm began with understanding the land. In this hands-on workshop, you will learn what every farmer knows by instinct: how to read the soil, choose the right seeds for the season, and work with nature rather than against it.
Whether you have never touched a trowel or you are looking to deepen knowledge you already have, Basics of Farming gives you the practical foundation and quiet satisfaction of growing something from scratch.
Soil & Compost
Learn what makes healthy soil β pH, organic matter, drainage β and how composting closes the nutrient loop.
Seeds & Planting
Understand germination, spacing, and timing β and plant your own seeds to take home.
Water & Care
Discover traditional irrigation methods used at El Berima and how to read a plant's needs.
Harvest & Rotation
Learn when and how to harvest, and why rotating crops keeps the land productive season after season.
A Morning in the Fields
The workshop takes place entirely outdoors in our working gardens. Every session is guided by one of our farmers who has worked this land for years.
Hands in the Soil
You will work directly in the beds β turning compost, planting seeds, weeding rows β real farming, not observation.
Reading the Farm
A guided walk through the growing areas to observe what different crops look like at each stage of their cycle.
Seasonal Planting Guide
Each participant leaves with a personalised guide to what to grow at home based on the current season.
Farm Coffee & Reflection
We end with a glass of mint tea or farm coffee under the trees, talking through what we learned.
Who It's For & What to Bring
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, families with children aged 8 and up, and anyone who has ever wanted to understand where food actually comes from. No experience required β just curiosity and a willingness to get a little dirty.
Wear comfortable clothes and closed shoes. All tools and materials are provided. Sessions last approximately 3 hours and are capped at 15 participants so everyone gets personal attention.
